Course tutor: Naomi Yamamoto
Naomi is the author of Delicate Sugarcraft from Japan (Shibata Shoten, 2007) and although written in Japanese, it has become a favourite with sugarcrafters all over the world. She is also the creator of Wedding Cakes: The Couture Collection (B. Dutton Publishing Limited) which showcases 12 stunning wedding cakes for each month of the year.
In this masterclass, you will learn how to make a variety of amazingly life-like peonies and tulips taken from Naomi’s latest book, Sugar Flowers the Signature Collection (B. Dutton Publishing Limited) – a must-have guide for all sugar florists. Romantic peonies are one of the most popular flowers for wedding cakes with their lavish layers and delicate colours and tulips complement them perfectly with their pretty fringed edges and graceful poise.
The sugar flowers you will learn include a large frilled Peony and Chinese Peony in bud form, closed-cup and full-bloom and three types of tulip including a Fringe Tulip and Parrot Tulip in bud and bloom with leaves.
Under Naomi’s expert guidance, you will learn how to construct large blooms with a cupped shape and natural-looking petals with frills. You will also discover the different methods for making buds as well as techniques for adding realistic colour detail to your flowers and foliage and how to wire and tape them together.
Techniques you will learn:
- How to colour, wire, tape and construct popular wedding flowers
- How to achieve texture and a life-like appearance
- Advice on achieving balance when creating large blooms
- How to arrange your finished display on a dummy cake.
