Over four eye opening days expert tutor Claire Fitzsimons will walk you through the foundations of the four pillars of sugarcraft: sugarpaste, royal icing, pastillage and sugar flowers! Perfect for those totally new to sugarcraft and wanting to fast-track their skills on their way to a professional standard.

Day 1 Sugarpaste
In day one you will have a full introduction to sugarpaste and its uses. You will coating two dummy cakes and a board with sugarpaste for a smooth finish. You will then learn how to assemble a tiered cake using dowels for maximum support. You will be taught various modern techniques such as embossing, moulds and using a craft gun. Learn how to achieve contemporary fabric effects such as ruffles and bows. Discuss and use sugarpaste as a modelling medium, making unwired flowers and a simple animal cake topper.
Day 2 Royal Icing
In day two you will have a full introduction to Royal icing which will include learning about different icing consistencies and their various uses. You will be taught how to make and fill icing bags. You will then practise piping, using various sized icing tubes, straight lines, shells, bulbs, using a flower nail to create simple flowers and designing and making run out pieces for use either as a side design or topper.
Day 3 Pastillage
In day three you will have a full introduction to pastillage and learn about its uses in cake decorating. Techniques will include how to make the paste, adding colour and texture using dusts, edible paints, texture mats and stencils to make a modern monogram design perfect for displaying on top of a wedding or celebration cake.
Day 4 Wired Sugar Flowers
In day four you will have a full introduction to working with sugar florist paste. You will learn how to make wired flowers using cutters and impression moulds as well as hand pulled blooms. Techniques will include how to colour using both paste and dust colours, wiring with different gauge wires, use of stamens and how to apply florist tape. You will learn how to assemble flowers into a posy as well as discussing the different methods for attaching to a cake.
This course requires some additional equipment which you will be able to pre-order. You will be sent an equipment list a few weeks prior to the course.
